DESCRIPTION:
EPW - John Wilson, London, verge fusee quarter-hour repeater, 50mm, silver-gilt (vermeil) OF pair cases pierced for sound transmission, inner with decorative elements including a grotesque mask at lower portion and an idyllic lakeside home scene adjacent pendant, outer case without hallmarks, inner case bell has not been removed to inspect for hallmarks beneath, outer case containing paper for P. Wilson & Son of Keith, white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, serpent as pointer for regulator index, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock, silver locking dust-cap, no visible mvt s#.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good repeat function and tone for all trials with hands set between 1:00 and 11:59 though with failure to strike either hours or quarter-hours when hands are between 12:00 and 12:59, slide under dial at 6:30 currently not effecting any function, overhaul needed for full repeat function at all times, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, plate with some short scratches adjacent pillar positions; dial with very small flake to base of "I" numeral, some perimeter wear to left side that clips the upper portion of some of the 5-minute markings, light hls at perimeter between 11 and 12, flake at upper right of center largely below hands, few small fine scratches; excellent hands; outer case shows little wear, no dents, few small nicks, some gilt loss in areas, excellent engraving detail, button latch good; inner case shows very little wear, some mild pinpoint nicks to rear, excellent engraving detail; bow pivots freely; domed glass crystal with scattered small scratches.
